On the sidelines of celebrations to mark the 38th Pan African Post Day on 18 January 2018, Algeria Post issued a special stamp to mark the 51st Communes Day commemorated under the slogan “The Commune yesterday to today”.
The ceremony was graced by Mr Habba El-Okbi, Permanent Secretary at the Presidency of the Republic and representative of the Head of State; the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications, Technologies and the Digital Sector, Mrs. Houda Imane Faraoun; the Minister of the Interior, Local Governments and Territorial Planning, Mr. Noureddine Bedoui; the Secretary General of the Pan African Postal Union, Mr. Younouss Djibrine; and the Postmaster General of Algeria Post, Mr. Abdelkarim Dahmani.
The new stamp is a vibrant tribute not only to the role of the Communes, but also to the elected and non-elected officials as well as other employees who have served and continue to serve the Communes.
It is worth noting that the Commune is the primary unit for grassroots democracy and the cornerstone of the State. It is where the popular will is expressed and core values for organization of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria are materialized.
Finally, with its outreach across 1 541 Communes in Algeria, Algeria Post contributes fully to inclusive local development, thereby helping to achieve a strategic goal championed by the government authorities.
