African Posts honour Nelson Mandela
The 18th of July of each year has been declared “Nelson Mandela International Day” (or Mandela Day) not only to mark the former South African leader’s birthday and honour his legacy, but also to promote global peace, freedom and justice.
African posts equally decided to celebrate this day in a very special manner under the aegis of the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) by jointly issuing a commemorative postage stamp to mark the global icon’s centenary. The postal operators of Algeria, Tunisia and Burkina Faso launched a postage stamp honouring the champion of peace, Nelson Mandela.
In Algeria, the first-day-of-issue cancellation was conducted by the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications, Technologies and Digitalization, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs in presence of South Africa’s High Commissioner to Algeria.
